14U BARNSTORMERS
PLACE FOURTH AT AAU STATE

DES MOINES, Iowa --  The 14 and Under Barnstormers basketball team took the floor on February 25-26 for the 2006 14U AAU State Tournament:

Game #1:  Barnstormers (90), Wildcats (38)

The opening game of the 14U tourney saw the 全tormers cruise to victory over the Des Moines area Wildcats team.  The team used an uptempo attack to jump out to an early lead and easily out distance their opponent. Every player on the roster hit the scoring column, with ten players scoring at least 6 points or better.

Isaac Gardner led the way with a game-high 15 points.  Will Roth added 13 points and 9 rebounds, while big man Nick Wilson tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Game #2:  Barnstormers (95), Martin Brothers/FutureStars White (21)

This game was a total mismatch from the start as the 全tormers used a swarming defensive attack to totally dominate the game.  The 全tormers held a commanding 25-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, meaning they already scored enough to win the game.

Once again, wing man Isaac Gardner lead all scorers with 18 points.  Center Nick Wilson added a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.  Other top performers included: Blake Haluska 14 points; Tyler Putz 10 points; and Kellen Sweeney and Taylor Bontrager each added 9 points to the winning effort.

First Round:  Barnstormers (86), Silver Shooters (46)

Five players reach double figures and every player scored as the 全tormers once again came ready to play in the opening round of the single elimination tournament.

Top scorers included: Will Roth 13 points and 6 rebounds; Nick Wilson 12 points and 9 rebounds; Isaac Gardner and Max Martino each added 11 points; and Jon Keller tossed in 10 points.

Quarterfinals:  Barnstormers (74), Marion (37)

This victory was another outstanding performance by this fast improving squad.  They took control of the game early and ran away with another impressive win to set up a tough match up with the rival All Iowa Attack in the semifinals.

Wing man Jon Keller torched the nets for a game-high 14 points, including four three-pointers.  Big man Nick Wilson had another solid outing with 10 points, 7 blocked shots, and 5 rebounds.  Brian Gossett also reached double figures with 10 points off the bench.

Semifinals:  All Iowa Attack (82), Barnstormers (78)

The Attack got out of the gates quickly and held an early lead.  The 全tormers battled back to draw close at the end of the first quarter.  However, the Attack was able to take the momentum into the second quarter and extend their lead to 12 at the half.  The 全tormers and Attack exchanged baskets much of the third quarter as the lead shrunk to 9 heading into the final stanza.  The 全tormers rallied furiously down the stretch, but the Attack managed to hang on to advance to the 14U championship game.

Forward Will Roth scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the losing effort.  Nick Wilson was once again a force in the paint with 15 points and 7 rebounds.  Jon Keller and Isaac Gardner each reached double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Consolation:  Iowa Renegades (69), Barnstormers (53)

Only minutes after a heart-breaking loss in the semifinals the 全tormers were at it again against a tough Iowa Renegades squad from the Des Moines area.  The game was back and forth throughout much of the first half, but it was clear that the 全tormers just didn稚 have much left in the tank and the fired up Renegades took advantage of the opportunity and easily pulled away to defeat the 全tormers in the second half.

Nick Wilson turned in another top-notch performance with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots. Guard Tyler Putz was the only other player to reach double figures as he scored 11 points in the loss.

The Barnstormers finished 4th place in the 2006 14U Iowa AAU tournament.  Center Nick Wilson was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts throughout the weekend. The 14U 全tormers will be in action again in a few weeks when they play up an age-level in the 15U Iowa AAU Tournament.
